Map Builder

Build, edit and manage maps and event peds in-game with /slasherbuilder.

Every map and every event ped is created in-game, on a live server. A saved map is in the create-lobby list for every player at once; a saved ped appears, moves or disappears for every player at once. No restart, no file editing.

/slasherbuilder

Anyone with the admin ACE can open it - on most servers, your admins already. It is checked on the server on every action, not just when the builder opens. To use another ACE, change builderAce in configs/server.lua.

The builder cannot be opened while you are in a lobby.

Controls

You fly a freecam and build in the world.

ControlDoes
W A S D + mouseFly
Space / CtrlUp / down
ShiftBoost
Mouse wheelFly speed
Left clickPlace a boundary point (Maps tab) or the ped (Peds tab)
Right clickPlace a spawn point, facing the way the camera faces
Hold F + mouse wheelChange the zone's height (Maps tab)
Z / YUndo / redo
Left AltToggle the cursor, to use the panel
BackspaceExit

Esc or Left Alt releases the cursor and puts you back in the camera. Undo, redo, the height key, the cursor toggle and exit can be rebound under Settings → Key Bindings → FiveM.

Maps

The Maps tab has numbered lists of the boundary points and spawn points, each with fly to and remove, the zone's height, and the map list.

Setting the height

The height is set while you place points, the same way as an ox_lib poly zone.

  • The first point sets the zone's level from the ground you place it on. Every point after it stays on that level, wherever you aim, so the boundary is always flat.
  • The red line at your aim shows the zone's full height, centred on the point you are about to place. Read it against the real ground and roof.
  • Hold F and scroll to make the zone taller or shorter. Each notch is 0.5m; hold Shift as well for 2.5m. While F is held, the top and bottom edges turn white and the height is shown at your aim.
  • One press-and-scroll is one undo step. Remove every point and the next one sets a new level.

A new map starts 20m tall.

A map needs at least 3 boundary points and at least 2 spawn points. Save it and it is immediately selectable in the create-lobby list.

From the map list you can edit, clone, enable / disable or delete any map:

  • Disable hides a map from the create-lobby list without deleting it. A lobby already waiting on it cannot start until it is re-enabled or the host picks another map.
  • Delete is refused while a lobby is using the map. Close the lobby first.

Leaving a map's boundary during a game starts a countdown, and the player is eliminated if they do not return in time (timeToReturnToMapBeforeDeath in configs/client.lua).

The boundary is a prism, not a mesh

ox_lib flattens every point of a poly zone onto a single height, and the zone's thickness is the full height of the volume, centred on that height. So the starting Slaughter House (points at z = 31, thickness 20) covers z 21 to z 41 - not a 20m wall standing on the ground at 31.

The builder draws exactly that volume while you build, so what you see is what the game uses.

Event peds

The Peds tab places the NPCs players walk up to to open the lobby browser. Aim and left click, or press Place at camera, to place one facing you, then set its:

  • model
  • scenario (or none, to stand idle)
  • heading
  • map blip - on or off, label, sprite, colour and scale

Several admins at once

Any number of admins can use the builder at the same time. Whoever loads a map or ped first holds it until they load something else or leave. Everyone else sees who is editing it and cannot change it in the meantime.

Limits

The builder is bounded by mapLimits and pedLimits in configs/shared.lua - how many maps and peds can exist, how many points and spawns a map may have, its height and how far from the world origin it may sit.

These are checked on the server before anything is saved, so a modified client cannot save a 50,000-point map. See Configuration.
